About James Roth

James Roth, PhD, CIA, CCSA, has thirty years of progressive internal audit and teaching experience. His audit experience includes operational, financial, compliance and acquisition audits in a variety of financial industries, and developing risk-based audit approaches applicable to any industry.

Since forming AuditTrends, LLC in 1992, Jim has focused on best practices in internal audit. His extensive research has led to twelve major IIA publications, as well as the AuditTrends seminars and numerous articles and speeches.

Jim’s work with control models and control self assessment has made him one of the world’s leading authorities on evaluating soft controls. This work includes writing all the IIA’s COSO implementation products (see publications). Jim’s expertise was acknowledged in the February 1998 issue of Internal Auditor, when his views were featured in "Soft, Dangerous, Essential: an interview with Jim Roth."

Jim is one of the most highly rated speakers on internal audit, internal control, risk management and corporate governance. He frequently presents papers at IIA International Conferences, as well as regional and national conferences throughout North America and Asia.

Jim's expertise is not limited to the area of soft controls. There is no better developer or presenter of basic audit skills training on the market today. Some student comments:
